Latest news: on march 27 2002 the cache was removed by the local manager from Staatbosbeheer. Please do not go here: very important protected birdspecies are breeding until juni 15.
For people who go crazy on far views across endlessly green meadows and quiet waters with a bend for the mystical, this is a good place to look for all those. There is a lot of water around with marshy soil, high growing grasses and reeds plus big numbers of bloodsucking and in other ways greedy insects together with al the flatland birds that come with that.
You can walk straight on from the point where you can park a car at:
N 52° 06.584'
E 004° 28.708'
or 092 749 / 458 334 (RD grid)
But take care: the only rise in groundlevel for kilometers around is found in the bend of the road across the bridge. There are nasty wooden railings that will scratch your paint off!!!
You will arrive there if you drive to waypoint
N 52° 07.003'
E 004° 29.369'
or 093 513 / 459 103
The name of the bicycle path is 'Hellepad' (Hell's Way). Be prepared!
The place where the cache is hidden - in the midst of nowhere - is locally know as 'De Hel'. There is no need of digging here.
On the map (RD-coords) the position is: 092 204 / 458 007

It was simple luck that Staatsbosbeheer could get the lands here. And again good luck when birds discovered the place. Trying to make it a 1930-like wet peat-grassland was a good gamble. Where there only two grutto birds in 1990, this year there are 27. The scholekster went from 7 to 18 and the tuteluur from 2 to 15.
Do not think that it is quiet in winter here: last time they counted 3500 smient birds (a bird with a kind of builtin whistle).
So it is understandable that the less visitors there are the better.
